G. Michael Kelly, age 86 of Anita, IA, died at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, IA on Sunday, May 4, 2025. He was born on April 4, 1939, in Anita, IA, the son of Paul and Birdie A. (Kirkham) Kelly. He attended Anita Community Schools.
Mike was united in marriage to Cora Scarlett who was the daughter of Freddie and Iva Mae (Heckman) Scarlett on March 10, 1957, in Atlantic, IA. Like his dad, he was a fixer and trader of cars and was always tweaking them to run a little faster and as efficiently as possible.
He moved to West Liberty, IA in September of 1967 where he was employed at S/M Service Company. For over 35 years he was a fuel specialist. Transporting petroleum products as a trucker.
In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, inviting folks to cook outs were some of the things that kept him busy during his spare time. He was very proud of his family and their accomplishments and always glad when the grandkids came to see him. Wintering in Texas was how he spent some of his retirement days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Birdie Kelly; his daughter, Becky Kelly; brothers, Alan, Donald, John and Bob Kelly; sisters, Mary Jordensen and Jan Eiben; In-laws, Fred and Iva Scarlett.
Surviving Mike, his wife, Cora “Corky” Kelly of Anita; sons, Donald (Tracey Achenbach) of Bowling Brook, IL, Blaine (Jodi) Kelly of West Liberty, IA, Todd (Karen) Kelly of Iowa City, IA and John Kelly of West Liberty, IA; a daughter, Cindy (Barry) Mills of West Liberty, IA; a brother, David Kelly of Atlantic, IA; and sisters, Cathleen Griffith of Atlantic, IA and Colleen Nichols of Moscow, IA; Ten grandchildren and Twelve Great grandchildren; including many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am, Friday, May 16, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty, IA and burial following at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in West Liberty, A visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Visitation with the family present will be held from 4 pm till 7 pm on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Anita, IA (2005 White Pole Road).
Memorials can be made to Myrtue Hospice or to the Alzheimer's Association and can be left or mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home at PO Box 523 – Atlantic, IA.
The Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Anita, IA is handling the local arrangements in Anita, and the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home of West Liberty is handling the Mass of Christian burial and the committal at Mt. Calvary Cemetery all in West Liberty.
