Gary Ray Clausen

Gary Ray Clausen, the son of Raymond and Dorothy (Rounds) Clausen, was born July 15, 1943, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa and died July 8, 2021, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 23 days.

Gary was baptized and confirmed. He attended school in Walnut then helped area businesses. On June 23, 1964, he enlisted into the United States Army. During his tour of duty he served as a field artillery crewman and was stationed in Germany part of the time.

On September 3, 1964, he was united in marriage to Janice Ann Mortensen at the Bethany Lutheran Church near Kimballton. They were blessed with three children Randy, Lori, and Scott, who died at birth. Gary fulfilled his enlistment and was honorably discharged. He returned to his family in Audubon and was employed by several various businesses. Gary followed his passion and purchased his own truck and drove goods from coast to coast until he had to sell his truck in 2006 due to his failing health. He then drove for others until he fully retired.

Gary was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church near Kimballton, Iowa. He was a member of Audubon Post #120, American Legion and Dale Christensen Post 4119, VFW. Gary loved driving but he enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren more.

Preceding him in death was his son Scott Clausen; his parents; Wayne and Lois Hansen (who raised him during his teenage years); his brother Terry Kobs; and his sisters-in-law Delreen Bills, Marlene Mortensen, and Kathy Clausen.

Survivors include his wife Janice Clausen of Audubon, Iowa; his children Randy and wife Sue Clausen of Audubon, Iowa and Lori and husband Clint Petersen of Sioux City, Iowa; his grandchildren Katie Bruening and special friend Cory Myrtue of Climbing Hill, Iowa, Eric Bruening of Iowa City, Iowa, James Klocke of Dedham, Iowa, Brad and wife Brittney Klocke of Audubon, Iowa, Jennifer and husband Stan Reed of Grimes, Iowa, Brian and wife Brooke Klocke of Audubon, Iowa; his 8 great grandchildren; his brother Darwin Clausen of La Crescent, Minnesota; his sister Sue White of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his brother-in-law Ron Mortensen of Neligh, Nebraska; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

The family will meet with friends Monday evening, July 12, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Minister Jason Zaiger on Tuesday morning, July 13, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Interment will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery near Kimballton, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Terry “TAT” Thygesen, Steve Andersen, Jim Wiskus, Marc Bills, Mike Mortensen, and Rick Paske.
