George Joseph Palm, the son of George Joseph Palm Jr. and Kathy Ann (Seidel) Palm., was born August 1, 1974, in Reading, Pennsylvania and died unexpectedly at home with his wife by his side on the morning of August 10, 2023 at the age of 49 years and 9days.
George was baptized and confirmed. He moved around a lot and attended many different schools including Reading High School and Rifle High School in Colorado.
George had 2 sons with his first wife Heidi: Austin Palm and Alix Palm. George moved to Iowa in 2016 where he met Mandy at their church in Atlantic.
On June 6, 1978, they were united in marriage and were blessed with seven children, Sabrina, Trey, Dalton, Madison, Kenyen, Mataya and Ambree. They lived in Atlantic until moving to their final resting spot in Exira, Iowa.
George’s career of choice was heavy equipment operating at various open pit mines, quarries and gravel pits. Throughout his career he tried many different jobs which he liked but his true passion was working in the mines.
George loved baseball and football. His favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles. George also enjoyed watching hockey and bowling on T.V. He also would buy the UFC fights when they came on T.V. He was very passionate about the sports he loved.
George loved being outdoors. He was always finding a new adventure to take his family on. He especially loved kayaking and camping. He enjoyed taking his grandsons out on the Kayaks with him. Saxton and Jaxon would stay in the water and push them around. George always found camping relaxing from the beginning of setting up the camper to the very end of taking the camper down and all the fires in between. George would always have a fishing pool in whatever vehicle he had at the moment. George was known for just stopping and going fishing wherever he could. Mataya said “Dad loved fishing so much he would say you’re doing it wrong and take the pole and throw it in for her and give her the best lesson on how to catch a fish.” Ambree remembers the best fishing days were just spending time with her dad.
George loved having one on one time with Kenyen. They loved going to the movies, just the two of them or going out to eat. Sometimes you would catch George and Kenyen wrestling around or seeing who was stronger. George loved messing with Kenyen whenever he brought a girl home or just one of his friends. George always had something funny to say to his friends or ask them silly questions to embarrass them. He always knew how to make people laugh and have fun.
George also enjoyed fishing with his sons. George wanted alone time with Alex when they came to visit and would want to go fishing with him, just the two of them. He enjoyed shooting guns with his son Austin and he kept the shells from that day. It always was a reminder of what a great day he had with his boys.
George loved to go thrift store shopping with his wife. They would always sneak out away from the kids and hit a thrift store, or 2, or 3. George was the best at finding good deals and they always made it their thing. They would go at least twice a week, just the two of them. There was no better man to take shopping to a thrift store, than George. He always found the beauty in “someone else’s trash”. “One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure.”
George loved babies so much. It was any baby. When he would see or hold a baby, he would make a face that would look like he could “just eat that baby up”. He had so much love for all his grandbabies. He just couldn’t get enough of them. “Papa George” was there for all the births of his grandsons, Saxton, Jaxon and Kasynn. He cut all their umbilical cords and didn’t leave the hospital until he knew everyone was safe and o.k. George also loved his three granddaughters so very much, Harper, Kyree and Raelynn and grandson Jaxon Palm. Every time he went to Colorado for a visit, he couldn’t get enough of them. The love he showed in his eyes for his grandkids was priceless. George loved wrestling around with all of them and making silly noises, and just being goofy.
George was a jokester. He loved playing jokes on his boys and wife. George had the most contagious laugh. It was a laugh that made the whole room start laughing. Even if you didn’t want to laugh, George could make you.
George loved the Lord. If there is one thing to be said about George, it is that he most definitely loved Our Lord Jesus Christ.
George enjoyed playing games with his kids. He was always challenging them to a new game or puzzle. Once George put his mind to something, he never stopped ‘til it was finished. He was always thinking of creative ways to do something and he always was coming up with new inventions. George was a very smart man who knew a lot.
George loved going for rides on his motorcycle. Some days after work, he would just get on, and ride to nowhere in particular. He would just ride. He also loved taking his grandsons out for a ride, either around the block or to the lake. He was very proud of his motorcycle.
Last but not least, George loved food. George would always ask his wife Mandy, “Why are you cooking so much food?” But, before dinner was even on the table, he had already eaten half of it. He could definitely hold down a meal or two.
George will be missed by so many. He brought a special joy into everyone’s life. He meant something different to everyone. He was fun to be around and he was loved by all so very much. He will be missed tremendously.
Preceding him in death were his parents George J. Palm Jr. and Kathy, and his special companion Bailey Palm.
