Gordon Dean Buswell

Mr. Gordon Dean Buswell, age 75, of Audubon, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at his home in Audubon, IA.

Gordon was born on June 22, 1951, in Carroll, IA, the son of Lois (Neville) and Elmer Buswell. He was baptized in Lake View, IA, on April 11, 1953. His parents moved to Carroll, IA, from a farm in the Odebolt, IA, area in 1956, where he then attended schools in Carroll, graduating with the class of 1970. Gordon then joined the Army, completing basic training in Washington and Texas. He was sent to Germany, stationed at Kaiserslautern, where he served as a missile gunner. He was honorably discharged in 1972.

After returning, he worked for the City of Carroll, then moved to Schecks Plumbing as a master plumber before retiring as a plumber in 2006. Following that, Gordon moved to Hollister, MO, working contracted construction jobs until 2008. When Gordon moved back to Audubon to help his mother, he temporarily worked for Schecks Plumbing again and became a handyman for friends in Carroll.

Gordon’s first love was fishing, and he took many trips to Minnesota with friends. He was a lover of his cats, whom he rescued from the dangers they encountered.

Gordon, you will be deeply missed and forever loved.

He is survived by his mother, Lois; his brother, David (Lana) Buswell; his sister, Gail Ringland; two nieces, Darla (Jason Lacey), and Holly (Brent) Kube; three great-nephews and one great-niece.

Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Elmer, and a brother-in-law, H. Glenn Ringland

Public visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a brief funeral service at 11:00 a.m on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Audubon, IA. A luncheon will be held following the services at the St. Patrick's Catholic Parish Hall in Audubon, IA.

A family graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View, IA.
