Harold Leroy Rustvold

Harold LeRoy Rustvold, the son of Roy Sr. and Vernie (Fry) Rustvold, was born August 3, 1935, in Audubon, Iowa and died February 27, 2022, at the Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 24 days.

Harold was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended the Audubon Community Schools. He then worked various jobs and later started working construction.

On August 26, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Jo Petersen at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. They were blessed with two children Phillip and Cynthia. He continued to work construction. Mary Jo died April 28, 1968. On August 24, 1968, he married Loretta Borkowski at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. They were blessed with four children Brian, Carla, Jana, and Lindsey. Harold started his own construction company Rustvold Construction where he poured concrete, did remodeling, and home construction for over 60 years until he retired in 2019. Loretta died July 22, 2007. Harold continued to live at home. During his retirement he enjoyed mowing the lawn at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Harold was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. He was a member of the Audubon Fire Department joining on February 2, 1965 and served with them for over 55 years. Harold loved to go to the boundary waters and fish. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Audubon County Travelers. He enjoyed helping Brian with his race car and watching him race. He also enjoyed his Saturday early morning breakfast with his friends.

Preceding him in death were his wives Mary Jo (Petersen) Rustvold and Loretta (Borkowski) Rustvold; his sons Phillip Rustvold and Brian Rustvold; his parents; and his brother Bill Rustvold.

Survivors include his daughters: Cynthia Rustvold of Audubon, Iowa, Carla and husband Eric Christensen of Audubon, Jana Burnside of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lindsey and husband Ryan Venteicher of Shawnee, Kansas; his daughter-in-law Rene Rustvold of Audubon; 11 grandchildren: Melissa and husband Jack Olberding and Whitney Rustvold all of Carroll, Iowa, Stacy and husband Dave Fischer of Iowa City, Iowa, Morgan Christensen of Ankeny, Iowa, Connor, Braeden, and Greyson Christensen all of Audubon, Bennett and Jameson Burnside both of Kansas City, Taryn and Tenley Venteicher both of Shawnee; 5 great grandchildren; his brothers and sister: Bob Rustvold of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Betty and husband Marvin Nielsen of Tucson, Arizona, Roy, Jr. and wife Dee Rustvold, and Don and wife Lynne Rustvold all of Audubon, and Ronnie Rustvold of Carroll; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Judy Wheeler of Exira, Iowa, Richard and wife Marilyn Petersen, Donna Kelly, James Borkowski, Marlys Borkowski, and Dale and wife Delyte Borkowski all of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
