Harold Joseph Scholl, age 90, of Adair, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, surrounded by his family, at CHI Health Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, NE.
Harold Joseph Scholl was born June 14, 1933, to Roy and Hazel (Gissible) Scholl in rural Anita at the family home. He was the youngest of five children. Harold attended country school and graduated from Anita High School. He farmed with his dad and brother, Edwin, before being drafted into the Army in 1953, where he served in Germany in the 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment and was honorably discharged in March of 1955. He met and married Phyllis Jean Perdue on June 10, 1956, in Atlantic at The United Church of Christ. They lived in Anita for a short time before moving to Adair County where they farmed together for 67 years.
Harold was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. He was honored to serve on many local organizations, including West Central Cooperative Board, Exchange State Bank, Security State Bank, Stock Shufflers Young Investment Group, 5x80 Board of Directors, 5x80 Shriners, belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Anita American Legion and awarded Outstanding Young Farmer of Adair County in 1968.
Harold is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Scholl; daughters, Joni (Rusty) Raper, Gina (Tom) Gettler, Judi Rumple, Julie Jensen, Jyl Scholl (Joe Avey, fiancé); 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Rosalie (Gene) Kopp; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Jayne Ann; parents, Roy and Hazel Scholl; in-laws, Marion and Dorothy Perdue; brother, Edwin (Ruby) Scholl; sisters, Doris (George) Scarlett, Hilda (Boyd) Falconer; son-in-law, Darrell Jensen.
Harold was a devoted family man who enjoyed family get-togethers, trips to Colorado, annual family vacations to Minnesota (with daily afternoon trips for ice cream), and family tea parties, especially being a part of Phyllis’s surprise 85th birthday tea party. Several trips were made to Europe over the years, visiting family and discovering his family heritage.
Harold will be remembered for being a devoted husband, a loving Dad (always proud to say that he had six daughters), his generosity, his big loving heart, his annual reading of The Polar Express on Christmas Eve, his warm smile, and liked telling his grandkids to “Keep Smiling!”
