Hattie Owens, 95, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.

Hattie was born May 9, 1921, in Allenstein, East Prussia, Germany, to Joseph and Emilie (Dulisch) Dittrich. They came to the US by ship into New York Harbor in October of 1926. She grew up in Washington D.C. and spent most of her adult life in the D.C. area before moving to Atlantic in February of 1992. Hattie graduated from high school with the Class of 1940 from Immaculate Conception Academy in Washington D.C.

She married Jesse Kimble Owens September 18, 1942, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Washington D.C. They traveled to various stations while Kimble was on active duty with the Army Air Corp. She worked doing bookkeeping and office work. After becoming a mother, she stayed home until the girls were older at which time she worked part time at a department store. She also volunteered many times over the years at Kathy's school for children with Down's syndrome by helping in the school, day camps and workshops. Hattie was an avid recipe collector.

Hattie was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic and was a longtime member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Arlington, VA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse Kimble Owens; her second daughter, V. Kathleen (Kathy) Owens; a brother, Erich H. Dittrich, sister-in-law, Mary Dittrich; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Hattie is survived by her two daughters, Susie (Sue) and husband, Emile (Em) Roux of Manchester, CT and Elizabeth (Liz) and husband, Richard Winston of Louisa, VA; grandchildren, Michael Roux of Williamsburg, VA, Matthew Roux of Lake Wiley, SC, Christine Banavige of New Britain, CT, Mark Roux of Bristol, CT and Robert "Rob" (Nikol) Winston of Las Vegas, NV; step-grandchildren, Shannon Winston of Lorton, VA and Brandon (Leslie) Winston of Spotsylvania, VA; two great-grandchildren, Kimberly (Kimmy) and Elissa Banaviege; one step-great-grandchild, Tyler Winston; a sister, Lucy Campbell of Umatilla, FL; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday May 24, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, Iowa.
Burial will be in the Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Good Samaritan Fund at the Heritage House in Atlantic is preferred.
