Helen Wendt

Helen Ann Wendt, 80, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Helen was born February 12, 1936, in Walnut, Iowa, to George Peter and Ella Julianne (Spies) Hansen. She grew up near Walnut and graduated from Walnut High School in 1953. On October 27, 1956, she was married to Robert Wendt in Walnut, Iowa. She had lived in the Walnut and Atlantic area all of her life.

She had worked for a short time at State Farm Insurance. After her children were of school age, she then worked in the cafeteria at the Atlantic Public Schools.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa, and the DOES. Helen enjoyed walking, reading, dancing and playing cards. She also enjoyed spending time at the Elks and with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Christine (Robert Cary) Short of Atlantic, IA; three sons, Michael (Kathleen) Wendt, David Wendt and special friend, Cindy Ackerman, and Eric Wendt all of Atlantic, Iowa; three grandchildren, Trevor, Erin and Ashley Wendt all of Atlantic, Iowa; and a brother, Ralph Hansen of Harlan, Iowa.

Visitation with family will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 24, 2016, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

Burial will be in Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, IA, at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to the Elks Building Fund or the Atlantic Public Library.
