Irma Schaaf

Irma G. Schaaf, 90, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic.

Irma was born on August 15, 1926, in Cumberland, Iowa to John and Margaret (Ihnen) Eilts. She grew up in Cumberland and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1944.

She was married to Ronald Schaaf on October 10, 1946, at the home of her parents. Irma had been a resident of Atlantic since her marriage.

Irma worked as a secretary for Husker News, Merner Motors and Andrews Roofing. She also worked at Nishna Hills Golf Club. She was a member of the United Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the DOES. Irma enjoyed dancing to Big Band music, playing golf and following the sporting activities of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald; a sister, Marcella and her husband Don Schaaf; a nephew, Paul Schaaf and his wife, Tammy; a great niece and a great nephew.

Irma is survived by her nieces, Marsha (Don) Cobb of Wood River, IL, Peg (Jim) Glynn of Wiota, IA, and Shelley Schaaf of Anita, IA, five great nieces; three great nephews and a number of great-great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the family for donation to charities of Irma’s choice.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 10, 2017, from 9:00 a.m., until time of service at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
