James Larsen

James David Larsen, 77, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was born on August 23, 1938, to John and Irene (Christensen) Larsen in Atlantic, Iowa. Jim was raised southeast of Anita and went to school in Anita. He graduated from Anita High School with the class of 1956. On February 16, 1958, he was united in marriage to Ruby Wahlert at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita.

Jim's entire working career was with Betts and Beer Construction in Anita. He was also a long-time member of the Anita Fire Department and Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking and cruising the streets of Anita. He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; his sons, Scott and Doug; his parents, John and Irene Larsen; sister, Janice Baker; his parents-in-law, Flossie and Glenn Wahlert; and his brother-in-law, Paul Wahlert.

Jim is survived by his beloved cat, Goldie; daughter, Cindy (Doug) Kreklau of Grimes, IA; son, Kevin (Lizz) Larsen of Mansfield, TX; grandchildren, Josh (Tawnya) Larsen of Audubon, IA, Amanda (Josh Waske) Larsen of Mount Ayr, IA, Jessica (Colin) Talbot of Mansfield, TX, Jordan (Sydnay Flournoy) Larsen of Fort Worth, TX, Jodi Larsen of Arlington, TX, Parker Pulliam of Fort Worth, TX and Rob Kreklau of Grimes, IA; great-grandchildren, Evan, Leah, Sam, Ayva and Brayden Larsen all of Audubon, IA, Jesse Wilds and Ella Waske of Mount Ayr, IA; brothers, Bob (Judy) Larsen of Sutherland, IA, Tom (Marilyn) Larsen and Dan (Chris) Larsen all of Anita, IA; sisters-in-law, Millie (Ralph) Wedemeyer, Betty Paulsen and Delores Wahlert; favorite cat-sitter, Janet Larsen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016, also at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, following the service. Luncheon will be served after the committal service at the Anita American Legion Hall.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Anita Fire Department or Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita.
