James Stone

James Albert Stone, 88, of Burnsville, MN, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Emerald Crest in Burnsville.

He was born on December 1, 1928, the only child of Ernest Alfred and Georgia Brown Stone, in Yankton, South Dakota. James' father grew up in Anita and brought Jim to visit his grandparents when he was a child. James graduated from high school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and remained there while completing his BA degree in psychology at Coe College. He was awarded a Fellowship to complete a Master’s degree in Psychology at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. After completing his college degrees, he reported to duty in the United States Army for two years. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War from 1953-1955. He was a Field Artillery Computer Operations and Intelligence Specialist. After his time in the service, James became a librarian and spend his career with the Public Library System in Minneapolis and St. Paul Minnesota.

James is survived by two first cousins, Elaine Stone of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Jon Calhoun of Sitka, Alaska. There are many dear second and third cousins as well, including, Jackie Bohms, a second cousin who has lived most of her life in Anita.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Georgia Stone.

A military graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017, in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.
