Jane Petri

Jane Clare Petri, age 86, peacefully passed on December 15, 2025 at the Community Care Center, Stuart, IA.

Jane was born November 13, 1939, in Adair, IA, to Clarence and Annetta (Wesack) Petri.

Jane grew up and helped on the farm. She was always a farm girl at heart. She and her dog, Sparky, drove the countryside and took her dad along. In the Spring, you could find Jane sitting alongside roads watching baby calves in pastures.

Jane attended Grant No. 5 country school and then graduated from Adair-Casey High School. She continued to Drake University and Phoenix College. Jane’s career took her to Tempe, Arizona for 16 years then relocated to Adair and worked in West Des Moines for 14 years. Her dad was her priority. Upon retirement she also helped those in need of getting to and from appointments and errands. She hosted many Petri Reunions.

Jane treasured her faith. She was a member of rural St. John’s and Immanuel Lutheran Churches in Adair and currently a member at Zion Lutheran Church, Atlantic. For many years, she played the organ and piano for many churches.

Estes Park and Sanibel Island is where Jane vacationed more than once. She really enjoyed traveling with her lifelong friend, Wilma and spent time with Wilma’s family.

Jane lived life to its fullest. No grass grew under her feet. She loved to tell stories of the good old days accompanied by lots of smiles. She liked to plant flowers at her house in town including milk weeds from the farm. She enjoyed her friend Gary’s visits along with rides and restaurants.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents, relatives, and friends.

Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Adair with Pastor Kyle McBee officiating.

Burial will be at a later date at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Adair.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church in memory of Jane and can be mailed in care of Schmidt Family Funeral Home to P.O. Box 523 Atlantic, IA 50022.
