Jeffrey Richter

Jeffrey J Richter, 52, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Jeff was born September 19, 1962, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Donald Eugene and Ruth LeAnn (Huffman) Richter. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1981. He lived his life in Cass County except for four years that he lived in Des Moines and for three years near Brayton. Jeff was the owner and auctioneer of Richter Auction Service since 1980. He owned Barringer Taxi for seventeen years, managed Williams Brothers Garage, worked at Kum & Go, in life insurance sales, and was a dispatcher for the Cass County Sheriff's office.

He was a member of the SW Iowa Mutual Aid Association where he had served as the president and the secretary. Jeff was a member of Friends of the Library, Elks Lodge 445, Knights of Columbus, a past president and secretary of the Jaycees and a member of the Atlantic Fire Department. Jeff loved playing cards. Texas Hold'em and Gin were his favorites. He also enjoyed going to Canada to fish, loved history, historical farming practices, and old time country music.

Preceding Jeff in death were his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Jeff is survived by his parents, Donald and Ruth Richter of Atlantic, IA; sisters, Stephanie Richter of Atlantic, IA and Regina Richter of Omaha, NE; brothers, Gary (Sally) Richter, Jon (Lee Schipull) Richter and Phil (Shawnell) Richter all of Atlantic, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday May 20, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic with burial in the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Atlantic.
