Jim Olsen

Jim Olsen, 77, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 9, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jim Anders Olsen was born January 10, 1940, in Elk Horn, Iowa, to Eddie and Leota (Madsen) Olsen. He was raised in Elk Horn and attended school there graduating from Elk Horn High School with the class of 1958. On July 2, 1961, he married Dolores Wortman in Atlantic, Iowa.

After high school, Jim moved to Atlantic and worked at C.R. Anthony’s. He became a manager and traveled to other states to open and manage other Anthony’s stores in Montana, Idaho, Mount Ayr, IA, and then back to the Atlantic area. In total, Jim was employed with C.R. Anthony’s for 26 years. He then sold feed for Morman’s for a several years before opening Olsen’s Outdoor Power in 1986.

Jim was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was a past church Elder. He was also a member of the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce.

Jim was an honest hardworking perfectionist who had a strong work ethic and loved exploring and finding new ways to grow the business adding multiple product lines over the 31 years. He enjoyed breakfast at the Downtowner where he made a tradition spending quality time with his Grandkids teaching them lifelong lessons along the way. His favorite evening meal came at the Redwood with a thick Windsor chop.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents; father-in-law, Arthur Wortman; and a brother, Wayne Olsen.

Surviving Jim is his wife, Dolores, of Atlantic, IA; children, Todd (Amy) Olsen of Ankeny, IA, Tad Olsen of Atlantic, IA, Tane Olsen of Los Angeles, CA, Tye (Julie) Olsen of Colorado Springs, CO and Tori (Danny) Newell of Anita, IA; grandkids, Gage Olsen (fiancé Josee Adams) and Jade Olsen all of Ankeny, IA, Travis Olsen of Anita, IA, Erin and Jake Olsen of Atlantic, IA, Jadon Cooper, Kaley Cooper and Zach Olsen all of Colorado Springs, CO, Dylan, Brooke, Baylee and Drey Newell all of Anita, IA; mother-in-law, Ruby Wortman of Anita, IA; brothers-in-law, Robert (Colette) Wortman of Des Moines, IA and Ronald (Pat) Wortman of MN; sisters-in-law, Darlene Grace of Adair, IA, Donna (Mike) Weidmann of Norwalk, IA, Denise (Brian) Ward of CA and Deanna Wortman of Des Moines, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation with family will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Jim’s family requests memorials to the family that they will donate to the Atlantic High School girls and boys golf teams.
