Joan Hansen

Joan Hansen, 91, of Indianola, IA, a former Audubon, IA resident, died on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle, IA. She was born on October 28,1933 at home in rural Audubon, IA the daughter of Willie and Martha (Dreier) Miller. She attended country school and graduated from Audubon High School.

Joan married Harold Hansen on January 26, 1958. She retired from the Audubon Coop where she worked as a bookkeeper for many years. Joan spent a great deal of time outdoors; gardening, tending her birdfeeders, fishing and playing golf. She was an avid traveler going as far as Alaska, numerous times to Canada and to Vienna, Austria. When she had to be inside, she enjoyed bowling, watching sports, playing cards and going out to eat on Friday nights with her friends. Most of all, Joan loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Joan survived by her sons Doug (Jodene) Hansen of Indianola, IA and Gary (Jill) Hansen of Marion, IA; grandchildren, Brittney (Stefan) Fuchs of Vienna, Austria, Jordan Hansen of Helena, MT, Noah (Haley) Hansen of Cherry Valley, IL and Garrett Hansen (Riley Bruns) Marion, IA; great-grandchildren Flora Fuchs and River Hansen.

She was preceded in death by husband Harold Hansen; parents Willie H Miller and Martha (Dreier) Miller; and brother Dale Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Audubon, with Rev. Mike Bodkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the funeral home on Thursday.
