Jodi Thelen

Jodi Irene Thelen, 53, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at the Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Jodi was born September 24, 1964, the daughter of Edward and Annette (Schroeder) Lehmann in Atlantic, Iowa. She was raised in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School with the class of 1983. Jodi was united in marriage to Duane Thelen on February 18, 1983, in Atlantic.

She and Duane lived in Atlantic for a short time after they married before making their home in Anita, Iowa. She also worked at the preschools in Adair and Anita during that time. Jodi worked alongside Duane on their farm for many years. She then returned to school attending Iowa Western Community College and became a Certified Medical Assistant. Jodi was employed at the Adair County Medical Center for a couple years before starting at the Cass County Memorial Hospital, where she has been for over ten years.

Jodi became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anita, Iowa, in 1983. She was always very active in the church as a CWO officer, religious education coordinator and with other various activities. Jodi loved to listen to music of all types, enjoyed being on the farm, and going for rides on their motorcycle. Jodi spent countless hours helping others, but above all, her greatest treasure was her children and grandchildren.

Surviving Jodi is her husband, Duane Thelen of Anita, IA; her children, Jason (Raychelle) Thelen of Virginia Beach, VA, and Jessica (Blake) Aspengren of Ames, IA; her grandchildren, Jursie and Kaylie Thelen of Virginia Beach, VA, and Brock Aspengren of Ames, IA; her mother-in-law, Florence Thelen of Atlantic, IA; her sisters, Elise (Chris) Fiedler of Atlantic, IA and Barb (Bob) Jorgensen of Audubon, IA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Allen (Alvina) Thelen of Anita, IA, Sue (Terry) Boes of Carroll, IA, Dale (Deb) Thelen of Bella Vista, AR, and Art Watson of Whitehill, MT; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Annette Lehmann; her father-in-law, Gerald Thelen; three heavenly angel grandbabies; and her sister, Julie Watson.

A Rosary service will be held at 4:00 p.m., with family visitation following until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in ATLANTIC, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anita, Iowa. A private interment of ashes will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family or the church to be used for remembrance masses at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
