Jolene Rae DuVall, the daughter of Theodore “Ted” Richard and Annie Louise (Searls) Molgaard, was born December 28, 1945, at her parents’ home in rural Audubon County east of Hamlin, Iowa and died December 23, 2021, at her son’s, Joel, home west of Hamlin where she had been staying during her illness at the age of 75 years, 11 months, and 25 days.
Jolene was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. She attended Viola Community School then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1963. Jolene then attended Beauty School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jolene returned to Audubon and then worked for Martha Renftle.
On March 23, 1968, she was united in marriage to Arnold DuVall at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. They were blessed with two children, Lana and Joel. They lived in Council Bluffs for a short time then returned to Audubon. Jolene worked for Martha for a number of years then opened her own Salon “Jolene’s Clip and Curl” which she operated for a few years then later returned to Martha’s. She then was employed as a manager at 4-Sons convenience store, was a waitress at the Valley Restaurant, and later was manager of the parts department for Hi-way Implement. She then was employed at Modern Cleaners which she later purchased and operated it for close to 30 years until she closed the business. Jolene worked for Delong’s until she was seriously injured in an auto accident.
Jolene was a lifelong active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. She sang in the choir, taught the youth group, helped with the annual soup supper, and also helped wherever she needed. Jolene was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the federated women, a 4-H leader, and a Sports Booster. She was a member of the singing group “The Songsters” who were widely known for their singing abilities and entertained many venues throughout the State of Iowa. But above all she enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren participate in their many various activities.
Preceding her in death was her grandson: Nickolas T.J. DuVall; her parents Ted and Louise Molgaard; her sister Lois Lorraine Nickum; and her brothers-in-law: Floyd Small, Richard “Buck” Hansen, and Russell Hansen.
Survivors include her children: Lana and husband Darv Wittrock and Joel and wife Rhonda DuVall all of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren Jeremy and wife Debra Wittrock and daughter Maci all of Audubon, Iowa; Ashley Jessip and Korie McGinnis and their children Hailey, Titan, and Jax all of Ackworth, Iowa, and Tiffany Wittrock of Waukee, Iowa, Samie DuVall and Justin Ponsor of Sergeant Bluffs, Iowa and Teddy DuVall of Ankeny, Iowa; her sisters Shirley Small of Fremont, Nebraska, Marilyn Hansen of Manning, Iowa, and Kathleen Hansen of Bondurant, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon with Reverend Philip Beisswenger officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon. Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon. Casket bearers will be Jeremy Wittrock, Teddy DuVall, Beau Nickum, Kevin Edelman, Taylor Edelman, and Kyle Hansen.
