Mr. Jon Clinton Bishop, age 56, of Atlantic, IA, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Cass Health in Atlantic, IA.

Jon was born on November 17, 1969, in Atlantic to Malcolm and Janet Bishop. He grew up in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1988. He later attended Iowa State University, where he earned a degree in Agricultural Business.

From a young age, Jon had a strong connection to agriculture. He was active in FFA and 4H and especially enjoyed showing pigs and sheep. After college, Jon worked for Farmers Hybrid delivering hogs. Over the years, he also worked for Schwan’s, KSOM, Howling Coyote, and later Cass Incorporated.

A major chapter of Jon’s life was his ownership of Rumors Lounge, which he opened in 2007. Rumors was much more than a business to Jon. It was something he took tremendous pride in and poured a huge part of himself into. In many ways, Rumors was his baby. Through the business, Jon met countless people, built lifelong friendships, and created a place where people could gather, tell stories, and make memories. Many of the friendships he made throughout the years became more like family, and those relationships meant the world to him.

Family was at the center of Jon’s life. Although he never had children of his own, his nieces and nephews were like his kids, and he cared deeply for each of them. Some of the highlights of each year were the family trips to northern Minnesota and Boone, where everyone could come together, reconnect, laugh, and make memories. Jon was often the person who helped bring everyone together, made the plans happen, and became a central part of the traditions the family looked forward to each year.

Jon had a way of making any gathering more fun. He was always giving someone a hard time, but it was done with humor and affection, which usually ended with everyone laughing. He had a gift for keeping things light, making people feel included, and turning ordinary moments into stories that could be told again and again.

Outside of family and Rumors, Jon enjoyed deer hunting with friends and was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan, always happy to remind his Hawkeye friends exactly where his loyalty stood. His dog, Smokey, also held a very special place in his heart.

Jon is survived by his sister, Susan Bishop Soma, and her husband, Chad Soma, and their children, Hunter and Jordan Heese, Jesse and Talia Burkhart, and Hayden Soma; his brother, Mike Bishop, and his wife, Melanie Bishop, and their children, Norrin, Amber, Abbey, and Ally Bishop; Amber’s children, Rylan, Adeline, and Jade; Karen Eilers, Dave and Carolyn Bishop; Ken and Ruth Stoner; Jim and Teresa Shahan; along with many cousins, extended family members, and the many friends who became family throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Janet Bishop; his cousin, Beth Cronin; and his uncle, Del Eilers.

Those who knew Jon will remember his humor, his loyalty, the pride he took in Rumors, and most of all, the way he brought people together. His life is a reminder to laugh often, enjoy the little things, make time for the people you love, and not to take life too seriously. Jon leaves behind countless stories, friendships, and memories, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
