Joyanna S. Dryden

Joyanna S. Dryden, the daughter of Albert F. and Ivy Rains Soukup, was born July 25, 1917, at her parents home east of Exira, Iowa and died November 1, 2010, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 3 months, and 6 days.
Joyanna was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural schools east of Exira then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1934.
Joyanna served as the Exira City Clerk for many years. She was employed at the Exchange State Bank in Exira where she was the head bank teller for over 35 years until she retired. She then enjoyed helping her son, David, operate his business, the Exira Bowl. After retiring from the bank, she kept herself in shape by walking with her little dog, Rocky, over three miles a day. Joyanna enjoyed gardening and shopping. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed college football. She enjoyed playing cards and going to the many card parties.
Joyanna was a member of the Exira Christian Church in Exira. She also was a long time member of Exodus Lodge Chapter 313 Order of the Eastern Star in Exira.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister: Jocelyn and husband Frank Rasmussen; and her uncle Greg Rains.
Joyanna is survived by her son David Dryden of Exira, Iowa and her many friends.

Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening, November 3, 2010, at 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers, pastor of the Exira Christian Church, on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
