June Ione Blohm

June Ione (Wahlert) Blohm the daughter of Lloyd and Edna (Hess) Wahlert, was born on November 27, 1932, in Greeley Township near Exira, Iowa on her Grandfathers farm and died March 20, 2022, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 23 days.

June attended kindergarten at the Wahlert School in Greely Township. Her parents moved to Guthrie County and she attended Bear Grove School 3rd through 8th grade then attended high school in Exira Iowa graduating with the High School Class of 1950. After June graduated, she worked at the Exchange State Bank for 2 years.

On May 4, 1952, she was united in marriage to Herbert Blohm at the Exira Christian Church. They were blessed with three children son Randall and daughters Lori and Rachel. Herbert was in the army and they lived in El Paso TX for 1 ½ years. While in El Paso June was employed as a bookkeeper at the El Paso National Bank. Herbert was honorably discharged and they returned to Audubon where she worked at the Carlson Seed Corn Company for a short time. In 1954 June and Herbert moved to the Henry Blohm farm and started farming. They grew row crops and raised livestock. June helped Herbert farm, raised chickens, and always had a large vegetable garden and enjoyed canning the delicious produce. June was baptized and joined the Methodist Church in Audubon in 1960. In 1961 they moved north of Audubon to the Boust farm and later bought a farm in Cameron Township in 1971. Herbert died September 26, 2003. June lived on the farm for several years, later moving into Audubon.

June was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. Iowa and was a member of the UMW. June served as a 4-H member and leader. She was a member of the Audubon Co. Porkettes, The Get Together Club and the Bridge Club. She liked to sew, read and attend the kids’ school activities. She especially enjoyed helping the grandchildren with their 4-H activities. She loved to make cookies, tapioca pudding and her famous bonbons for the grandchildren. Later she enjoyed having coffee every week and playing Pass the King with her friends at the Corner Station by Templeton.

June was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Blohm; her parents Lloyd and Edna Wahlert; and her sister JoAnn and her husband Richard Petersen and other family members.

Survivors include her children, Randy Blohm and spouse Laurie Gilbert of Audubon Iowa; Lori and husband Kevin Lewis of Grimes Iowa; and Rachel Blohm of Carroll Iowa. Her Grandchildren Jamie (Justin) May of Urbandale Iowa, Christine Blohm (Cole Steffes) of Van Meter Iowa, and Reece Blohm (Ashley Siepker) of Carroll Iowa, Carly (Travis) Keeney of Eldridge Iowa, and Emily (Sean) French of Grimes Iowa. Her Great Grandchildren include Olivia May, Maxwell May, Sadie Keeney, Eliza French and Leo French; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will meet with friends on Thursday morning, March 24, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Kathy Kluis at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bears will be the grandchildren. The casket bearers will be Justin May, Travis Keeney, Cole Steffes, Sean French, Dale Tessman and David Tessman. Memorials may be directed to New Hope Village or the First United Methodist Church in Audubon.
