June Rose Nielsen

June 14, 1930 — April 27, 2022

June Rose Nielsen, the daughter of William and Elvertta (Gobeli) DeHart, was born June 14, 1930 in Lake City, Iowa, and died April 27, 2022, at the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 13 days.
June was raised by her grandparents Robert and Sophie Gobeli in Lidderdale Iowa. June was baptized and confirmed as an adult in 1949. She attended the Lidderdale schools then graduated from the Carroll High School with the Class of 1947. Following graduation, June worked at the bank in Lake City, Iowa and during the evenings she would sell tickets at the local theater.
On October 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Edward LeRoy Nielsen at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa by Pastor Erhardt Nielsen. They were blessed with three children Joy, Edward LeRoy, Jr. and Dean. June was a homemaker and cared for their children. Once they were in school June was employed at Dr. Gale’s Optometry office for a short time. She then was a bookkeeper for Bro Oil Company for a number of years. June was a secretary for the Guidance Counselors at the Audubon High School for a few years. June then was recruited by Audubon State Bank and was a bookkeeper at the main bank then was the manager of the Drive in Bank until she retired. During retirement June and Zeke traveled around the United States visiting most of the states including Alaska and Hawaii. They also traveled international to Denmark, Paris, Canada, and Mexico. During the winters they enjoyed spending time at their home in Weslaco, Texas.
June was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, and was involved in the King’s Daughters and had served as President of the Women’s Circle. June was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries and was a member of The Red Hats both in Audubon and Texas.
Preceding her in death was her daughter; Joy Nielsen; her parents; an infant brother, her half-brother Milford and wife Edna DeHart and her brothers-in-law Gordon Gude, Arthur Camp and Robert and wife Marjorie Nielsen.
Survivors include her husband LeRoy “Zeke” Nielsen of Audubon, Iowa; her sons Lee and wife Norma Nielsen of Ross, Iowa and their children Danielle and husband Curtis Derry and children Elda Mae Derry and Everett LeRoy Derry all of Casey, Iowa and Myles Nielsen and Logan Nielsen both of Audubon, Iowa. Dean and wife Jane Nielsen of Papillion, Nebraska and their children Christen and husband Ken Auge and children Theo, Lucy, and Megan all of Des Moines, Iowa, Dean Nielsen Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska, Benjamin Nielsen and children Keegan and Naima all of Yuma, Arizona; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Beverly Gude of Lincoln, Nebraska, Paul and wife Janet Nielsen of Harlan, Iowa, and Barbara and husband Gary McFarland of Sandy, Oregon.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will meet with friends Monday evening, May 2, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Dan Beattie on Tuesday afternoon May 3, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
Honorary Casket Bearer will be the Audubon Red Hats. Casket Bearers are Christen Auge, Dean Nielsen, Jr., Benjamin Nielsen, Danielle Derry, Myles Nielsen and Logan Nielsen.
