Karen Kay Polly

Karen Kay Polly, the daughter of Fred and Juanita (Rogers) Sturgeon, was born March 4, 1939, in Exira, Iowa and died November 9, 2021, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 5 days.

Karen was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira. She attended rural school Oakfield #1 west of Exira through the 6th grade and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1957.

On March 3, 1957, she was united in marriage to Charles May in Exira, Iowa. Two children, David and Dianna were born to this union. They owned and operated the Dairy Sweet in Exira for several years until they sold the business in 1967. She then was employed at the United States Post Office in Exira for a number of years.

In 1978, she married Bruce Polly and they made their home in Des Moines, Iowa. She transferred to the Des Moines United States Postal Office where she worked several different positions there until she retired in March of 2000 and returned to Audubon.

Karen enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows on the T.V., reading several different types of magazines, and tending to her flower gardens. She loved to go gambling whether it was going to the casino or scratching off her lottery tickets.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother, Richard and wife Delia Sturgeon; and her nephew, Bill Petersen.

Survivors include her children, David and wife Faye May of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dianna and husband Mike Ruddy of Clarksville, Tennessee; her grandchildren: Charlotte Romero, Veronica and husband C.J. Cisek, and Vanessa and husband Mike Goff all of Phoenix, J.C. and wife Stefanie Ruddy of Altoona, Iowa, Maggie Butler of Bondurant, Iowa, and Lauren Landon of Clarksville; her great grandchildren: Gage, Brock, Payton, Lily, Brooklyn, Abigail, Ashley, Beck, Avery, Tenley, Gunner, Camryn, and Chloe; her great-great grandson, Xavier; her sister, Donita and husband Wayne Petersen of Indianola, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will meet with friends on Saturday, November 13, 2021, from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 1:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira. Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery.
