Karl Aldag

Karl L. Aldag, 86, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Karl LeRoy Aldag was born December 11, 1930, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Otto and Ruth (Pont) Aldag. He attended country school at Gold Hill and graduated from Wiota High School with the class of 1948. On June 17, 1951, he married Lorene Readinger from Atlantic.

Following graduation he was employed at the Atlantic State Bank. From 1950 - 1954 he was in the U.S. Air Force. After returning from the service, he began his career with Walnut Grove Feed Company in Atlantic, retiring in 1995. For the next 15 years he worked at Rolling Hills Bank in Atlantic. Karl never lived more than 14 miles from Atlantic except for his military service.

He was active in the community serving on the YMCA Board, ACS Foundation, Booster Club Board, President of the Atlantic Jaycees, and the Atlantic Golf and Country Club, active with the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce, especially the Ambassadors, and was on the Board of the SW Iowa Egg Corporation. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and held all positions on the church board.

Preceding Karl in death are his parents, Otto and Ruth Aldag and his sister, Barbara Havens Harris.

Those surviving Karl are his wife of 65 years, Lorene Aldag of Atlantic, IA; his children, Jackie (Chuck) Sievers of Atlantic, IA, Craig (Jodi) Aldag of Urbandale, IA and Jodi (Randy) Christoffersen of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Alison (Chuck) Luin of Olathe, KS, Jennifer (Andy) Elston of Waukee, IA, Abby (Mike) Baines of Batavia, IL, Luke Aldag and Nick Aldag of Urbandale, IA, Eric Christoffersen of Erie, CO and Tyler Christoffersen of Waukee, IA; great-grandchildren, Zoey and Ethan Luin of Olathe, KS, Avery and Grace Elston of Waukee, IA; and Mathew, Gabby and Haddie Baines of Batavia, IL; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa, or the American Heart Association.

Visitation with family will be from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.
