Kathleen Ann Johnston

Kathleen Ann Johnston, the daughter of Leonard J. and Margaret (Vonesh) Stoberl, was born February 23, 1958, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa and died January 5, 2019, at St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa at the age of 60 years, 10 months, and 12 days.
Kathy was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1976. Kathy was employed at the News-Advocate newspaper during high school and post-graduation.
On October 23, 1976, she was united in marriage to Steven Johnston at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. They were blessed with two children Leah and Jeremy. Kathy was a home maker while the children were young and she also helped Steve operate the farm. Kathy was an aide at the Audubon Community Schools for a few years. Later, she worked in Panora, Iowa for Preferred Medical Deposits. Since then Kathy has been a sales associate for Farm Bureau Insurance in Carroll, Iowa.
Kathy was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. She had been the church organist since she was 16 years old. She loved to play the organ and piano. She also enjoyed sewing and fishing. Above all, she enjoyed going to all the activities of her children and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her father Leonard J. Stoberl; her brother Eugene Stoberl; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law LaVern and Lavina Johnston.
Survivors include her husband Steven Johnston of Audubon, Iowa; her children Leah and husband Michael Hemmingsen of Grimes, Iowa and Jeremy Johnston and Katie of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren Kellen, Cole, and Bennett Hemmingsen all of Grimes, Iowa; her mother Margaret Stoberl of Audubon, Iowa; her brothers and sister David and wife Val Stoberl of Audubon, Iowa, Dennis and wife Jenni Stoberl of Manning, Iowa and Lisa and husband Ronald Reed of Show Low, Arizona; her brother-in-law Mervin and wife Shari Johnston of Boone, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
There will be a Rosary Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. The family will then meet with friends at 5:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father David Nkrumah and Father Chris Fontanini on Friday January 11, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery south of Audubon. The casket bearers will be Joseph Stoberl, David Albertsen, Timothy Slobodnik, Rodney Rattenborg, Jim Williams, and Richard Hemmingsen.
