Kathy Symonds

Born: June 6, 1947 in Atlantic, Iowa. Peacefully passed: March 13, 2024 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Born in Atlantic, Kathy spent most of her childhood growing up on the farm and attended a one-room country schoolhouse.

Kathy met Bob, the love of her life, while working as a hair dresser. They married and raised their 4 children in Buffalo Grove, IL. They shared 56 wonderful years of marriage.

For many years Kathy devoted her time supporting her kids in anything they pursued, being Bob’s baseball team’s biggest fan and playing tennis and later pickleball. She was an amazing cook and loved baking cookies for the troops and baking muffins for her kids and grandkids. Kathy just loved her dogs and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes. She made friends and evoked smiles wherever she went.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Wilbur Knop. She is survived by her husband Bob Symonds; their 4 children: Jennifer (Eugene) Sia, Callie (Matty) Wilkinson, Grady (Courtney) Symonds, Tyler Symonds; 7 grandchildren; sister, Sherry Kluever and brother, Ron (Teri) Knop.

Memorial Services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Schmidt Family Funeral Home, 1804 East 7th Street, Atlantic, Iowa 50022 with Rev. Kyle McBee officiating. Following the service, refreshments will be served in the community room of the Schmidt Family Funeral Home. Visitation with family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Bent Tree Golf Club, 23579 Highway 6, Council Bluffs, Iowa 51503.
