Larry Kilcoin

Larry Noel Kilcoin, 81, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Larry was born June 16, 1938, in Grant Township, Guthrie County, Iowa, to Frank Thomas and Lelah Leona (Noland) Kilcoin.

He graduated from the Adair High School in 1957. In 1956, Larry had joined the Army National Guard and was part of Company K in Atlantic. He obtained Sergeant there. After that became commissioned in Air National Guard as 2nd Lieutenant. Larry separated from the service in 1962.

He married Jacqueline Ann Karns on December 1, 1963, at the Methodist Church in Anita, Iowa.

Larry was a resident of rural Adair all his life and spent his adult life farming north of Adair. He loved to farm and took pride in teaching young men about farming. He enjoyed flowers, the outdoors, nature, and taking care of people. He also held a pilot’s license and loved to fly his own plane. He was a member of the Adair Fire Department and had also been an EMT.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lelah Kilcoin; a brother in infancy and a brother, Lynn F. Kilcoin; parents-in-law, Albert and Eva Karns; brothers/sisters-in-law, Duane (Lorraine) Karns, Betty (Ivan) Joens, Charles VanAernam; and a nephew, Kent Kilcoin.

Larry is survived by his wife, Jackie Kilcoin of Adair, IA,; his children, Kristen (Jerry) Walker of Bridgewater, IA, Wendy (Tom) Wittrock of Wiota, IA, Sheri (Joe) Womble of Ankeny, IA, Andrea (Darren) Sorensen of Indianola, IA, and Patrick (Kayla) Kilcoin of Adair, IA; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Disney-Chapman of Johnston, IA; sisters-in-law, Mary Kilcoin of Guthrie Center, IA and Sherrill Karns of Anita, IA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry (Shirley) Karns of Audubon, IA, and Judy (Gary) Warwick of Atlantic, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2019, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019, at the Methodist Church in Adair, Iowa.

A private family burial will take place in Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair at a later date.

Memorials may be left to family’s wishes to be designated at a later date.
