Leanna Marie Killen

Leanna Marie Killen, the daughter of Theodor and Anna (Kyhnn) Vorm, was born October 27, 1930, at her parents’ home in Brayton, Iowa and died August 18, 2020, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 22 days.

Leanna was baptized and confirmed at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton. She attended Brayton Community Schools and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1950. She then moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where she worked at a Binding company and later was employed with Allied Insurance.

On January 23, 1965, she was united in marriage Delbert N. Killen at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira. Over the years they were blessed with three children: Karen, Gary, and Dale. Leanna helped Delbert operate the family farm and raised their children. She also enjoyed babysitting for several families throughout the years. Leanna and Delbert enjoyed their country home for many years before moving to the Exira Care Center in 2017.

Leanna attended the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira. She was a member of the Brayton American Legion Auxiliary for several years. In their younger years, they enjoyed going square dancing and were involved in several neighborhood card clubs. She also enjoyed going horseback riding. But most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and playing games with them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert N. Killen; her parents; her brothers, Leonard and wife Vera Vorm, and Leslie and wife Lorene Vorm; her brother-in-law, Albert Andersen; and her sister-in-law, Lela and husband Bernie Burbank.

Survivors include her children: Karen Hoff of Ankeny, Iowa; Gary Killen and Dale Killen, both of Brayton; her granddaughter, Alexis Johnson of Ankeny; her sister, Lydia Andersen of Blair, Nebraska; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

There will be an open visitation held on Friday, August 21, 2020, from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira. The family may not be present during the open visitation. There will be a private family graveside service at the Oakfield Cemetery east of Brayton, Iowa with Pastor Steven Frock officiating. Interment will be in the Oakfield Cemetery east of Brayton. Memorials are preferred to the family for a later designation. Honorary casket bearers will be T.J. Hansen, Justin Hansen, Michael Anderson, Kathy Sorensen, Craig Christofferson, and Carolyn Christofferson.
