Linda Kay Smith

Linda Kay Smith (Koob), age 71 of Anita, died on Sunday, August 24, at MercyOne hospital in Des Moines. She was born on November 16, 1953, in Atlantic, Iowa to Virgil and Catherine Koob (Byrum). Linda attended school in Anita for grades Kindergarten through twelfth grade. She graduated in 1972. Following graduation, Linda completed CNA school with intentions to obtain her LPN license. On September 20, 1975, Linda married Max Smith at the Lutheran Church in Anita.

Through the years Linda tried her hand at many different jobs. These included Principal in Des Moines, Iowa, HyVee, K-Mart, and Allen Place, all in Atlantic and MV transportation in Elk Horn. After her retirement she was employed part time at the Anita Public Library. She thoroughly enjoyed her days working with Sara and interacting with the community.

Linda’s pastime activities included doing puzzles, diamond paintings, and learning new games with her grandchildren. Family was very important to Linda. She made visits to Omaha to spend time with her grand dogs and to Ottumwa to visit her 4 grandchildren. Attending their archery tournaments was one of her favorite things to do.

Linda is survived by her husband, Max, and children Andrea (David) Wanner and Kenny (Brooke) Smith; her grandchildren Travis, Aiden, Logan, and Kayleigh Wanner and granddogs Amica and Ru. She is also survived by a sister, Rhonda (Robert) Davidson, brother-in-law, Marlo Smith and multiple nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Catherine Koob, Mother-in-law and father-in-law, LaVon and Max Kenneth Smith and numerous aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Anita, IA with Rev. Kyle McBee officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita. A luncheon will be held at the funeral home following the graveside service. Visitation with the family present will be on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Anita from 6 till 8 pm.
