Lois Virlee "Tee" Mullenger

January 21, 1934 — February 28, 2016

Lois Virlee “Tee” Mullenger, the daughter of Walter G. and Esther Mae (Walter) Waddell, was born January 21, 1934, at her parents’ home in Adams County near Stringtown, Iowa and died February 28, 2016, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 7 days.
Virlee was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1952.
On June 8, 1952, she was united in marriage to James H. Mullenger at the Methodist Church in Audubon. They were blessed with three children Ronald, Lori, and Julie. Jim and Virlee operated the Mullenger Family Farm where they grew row crops and raised livestock for many years. They operated the farm together until Jim died on December 19, 1997. Virlee continued to live on the farm and helped her son Ron operate the farm until she moved to the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa in October of 2015.
Virlee was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served as the president for many years, she was on many church committees, and sang in the choir. Virlee was a member of the Eastern Star and served as the Worthy Matron. She sang with the community choirs and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Camper’s Club, the Hamlin Friendly Neighborhood Club and the Red Hat Society. Virlee enjoyed doing crafts and worked for Lori Feddersen for several years and also helped as a census taker.
The most important things to her were her faith, husband, and family. Virlee loved being a farm wife and loved gathering with her family for birthdays, holidays and reunions. She loved traveling with Jim across the United States and many exotic places around the world. They loved to dance and share their lake home with family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, playing games and watching CBS soap operas. She also liked shopping, going to garage sales, and having lunch with her many friends.
Virlee was preceded in death by her husband James H. Mullenger; her grandson Michael Schmidt; her parents; her sisters Wilma and husband Doug McClure and Phyllis and husband Marvan Nissen; her nephew Scott McClure; and her brothers-in-law Robert W. Mullenger and Jack Mullenger.
Survivors include her children Ron and wife Darla Mullenger of Hamlin, Iowa, Lori and husband John Bolick of Gray, Iowa, and Julie and husband Dean Schmidt of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren Amanda Vaughn of Shawnee, Kansas, Travis and wife Amanda Mullenger of Manning, Iowa, Cale Bolick and special friend Amber Libke of Carroll, Iowa, Casey Bolick of Gray, Iowa, Brad Schmidt and special friend Beth Henderson of West Des Moines, Iowa, Leslie Roseboom of Audubon, Iowa, Taylor Roseboom and special friend Brian Gullion of Des Moines, Iowa; her great grandchildren Alex Vaughn of Shawnee, Kansas and Haley Mullenger of Manning, Iowa; her sisters-in-law Pat Mullenger of Audubon, Iowa, Judi Mullenger of Herdon, Virginia, and Marietta Mullenger of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Kathy Kluis on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. The honorary casket bearers will be Michael Schmidt, Donovan McClure, Mark McClure, Roger Bukacek, Jerry Roy, and Robert Magner. The casket bearers will be Travis Mullenger, Cale Bolick, Brad Schmidt, Casey Bolick, Craig “Bub” Sorensen, John Nissen, and Greg Bintner. The family will meet with friends Tuesday evening March 1, 2016, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
