Lorene Marie Templeman

Lorene Marie Templeman, age 98, of Ankeny, IA, formerly of Atlantic, IA, passed away in Ankeny on Wednesday, September 06, 2023.

Lorene was born on November 16, 1924, in Lyman, Iowa, to Jacob B. and Sophie Stecker Fendel. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical and Reform Church in Atlantic. Lorene was a graduate of Cumberland High School.

Lorene married Wayne O. Templeman on August 30, 1945. While Wayne was serving in WWII in the United States Navy, Lorene was employed by Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She later became a sales agent for Field Enterprises, (World Book Encyclopedia), Grolier Encyclopedia, and was an insurance agent with Peoples Life Insurance. In the early 50's, Lorene and Wayne established Templeman Oil Company and built their station at 3rd and Olive Street. Lorene served as a bookkeeper until the company was sold. After her husband’s death, she received her certification as a reflexologist and, for many years, provided comfort to many clients and friends.

Lorene served many years as a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed her role as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was a talented seamstress who loved sewing for her family and friends. Lorene was an avid quilter and remained active in her church sewing circle for many years. She was proud to share her beautiful quilts with her family and grandchildren. In 2013, Lorene moved to Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny, Iowa. She enjoyed new activities, making new friends, and spending more time with her family.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters Rachel Sykes and Rabecca (Dennis) Joyce; grandchildren Jason Joyce, Justin (Jana) Sykes, Stephanie Sykes-Comas (Angel), Granddaughter-in-law Gina Sykes; great-grandchildren Cecilia Sykes, Christopher Sykes, Samuel Comas, Isaiah Comas, Jacob Sykes, Cael Sykes, Caden Sykes, and Joshua Sykes.

Lorene was preceded into eternal life by her parents, husband, and grandsons, Christopher and Brian Sykes.

A brief visitation with the family will take place just 30 minutes prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic, IA, with Pastor Heather Santi-Brown officiating the service. Private family burial will be held at Atlantic Cemetery.
