Lorraine Howell

Lorraine Kay Howell, 72, of Walnut, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.

Lorraine was born October 27, 1946, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Marie (Harmsen) Christensen. Her family moved north of Walnut, Iowa, where she helped with the family farm. Lorraine attended Walnut Community School and graduated from Walnut High School in 1964.

Shortly after graduation, Lorraine met Marvin Howell and they were married October 30, 1964, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. They moved to several places due to Marvin’s work in the construction business. After a few years, they moved back to Atlantic where Lorraine worked at Cass County Hospital for several years.

They then moved to Walnut, where Lorraine worked at Super 8, McDonalds, JPI in Atlantic for 5 years and then at Peace Haven Retirement Home until her retirement.

She was a member of the Walnut American Legion Post #45. Lorraine loved playing the card game of Hand & Foot with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Marie Christensen; her husband, Marvin, on October 6, 2007; her siblings, brothers, Kenneth and Jim Christensen; and a sister, Nora in infancy.

Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Alesia (Doug) Sandbothe of Atlantic, IA, and Theresa (Mark) Opbroek of Marne, IA; grandchildren, John (fiancé, Kayla) Sandbothe of Exira, IA, Jeremy (Heather) Sandbothe of Atlantic, IA, Kay Williams of Marne, IA, Samantha (Roland) Robicheaux of Bellevue, NE; great-grandchildren, Kynnadi Sandbothe of Atlantic, IA and Daytin Hogueison of Exira, IA, McKinley Sandbothe of Atlantic, IA, Dawane and Aleeia Williams of Marne, IA, and Rydik Robicheaux of Bellevue, NE; sister, Lyla Good of Audubon, IA; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 21, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, with burial in the Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut, Iowa.

Memorials may be left to the family’s wishes to be designated at a later date.
