Lorraine Simpson

Lorraine Simpson, the daughter of Jens J. and Martha (Madsen) Andersen, was born March 2, 1919, at her parents’ home in rural Audubon County, Iowa and died June 19, 2019, at the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 100 years, 3 months, and 17 days.
Lorraine was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended rural school in Decatur County, Iowa through the fourth grade then attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1937. She then was employed at the A.A.A. office for several years.
In 1940 Lorraine was united in marriage to David Rasmussen in Maryville, Missouri. They were blessed with two children Linda and Lee. Later in 1954 she was deputy Recorder in the Audubon Court House. David died in 1956. Lorraine continued as the deputy Recorder until 1962 when she moved to Missouri. She worked various office jobs and was the Assistant Manager at the Talisman Apartment for several years. Lorraine moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa where she was the property manager for several apartment complexes.
In 1985 Lorraine married Ted Simpson. She moved to Exira, Iowa where they lived. Ted died in 1995. Lorraine lived in Exira until she moved to the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa on July 30, 2008, to be closer to her children.
Lorraine was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Exira Care Center and the American Legion Auxiliaries. Lorraine a member of the Association of the Federated Church and served as the Chaplain, was a member of the Bible study, the Thursday Club, and several other neighborhood clubs. She loved crocheting, knitting, playing Bridge, and selling Avon.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husbands David and Ted was Linda’s finance John Shearer; her parents; her brothers Edwin Andersen who was killed in WW II, and Leo and Charlotte Andersen; her sisters Myrtle and husband Reuben Hansen, Freda and husband Lawrence Alff, and Alice and husband Jean Havick.
Survivors include her daughter Linda Richards and her son Lee Rasmussen both of Council Bluffs, Iowa; her grandson Shawn and wife Marti Richards of St. Charles, Missouri; her great grandchildren Jordan Richards and Austin Richards of New Hampton, Iowa and Reagan Richards of St. Charles, Missouri, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet with friends Monday afternoon June 24, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Ben Unseth on Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Lee Rasmussen, Shawn Richards, Robert Hansen, David Hansen, Ron Juelsgaard, and Verdel Nelson.
