Lyle Frank Christensen, the son of Gaylor and Selma Olivia Molgaard Christensen, was born March 6, 1934 at his parents home in Audubon County, Iowa east of Kimballton, Iowa and died February 2, 2011 after a brief illness at theCreighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 26 days.
Lyle was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. He attended rural school in Audubon County then attended Elk Horn High School in Elk Horn and later received his GED while in the military. Lyle then worked for area farmers. In 1954, he was inducted into the United States Army. During his tour of duty he was a Military Policeman serving stateside. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Lyle returned to the Kimballton area and farmed. During this time he also worked for Vernon Knudsen as a mechanic in his implement dealership and drove truck for Petersen Brothers.
On February 4, 1967, he was united in marriage to Marlene Schaben at St. Peters Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa. Four daughters were born to this union. They operated a farm northeast of Kimballton where they grew row crops and raised livestock. During this time he was also a dealer for Golden Sun Feeds and operated L&M Feed Store from his farm. They operated the farm until he retired in 2002. During retirement they bought a camper and traveled for several years. He liked to restore tractors and Cub Cadet lawn mowers. They lived on the farm until they moved to Harlan, Iowa in December of 2010.
Lyle attended St. Patricks Catholic Church in Audubon with his wife Marlene and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. Lyle enjoyed polka dancing, playing cards and going to coffee with friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially with his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his brothers and sister: Burdette Christensen, Lamont Christensen, Beulah and husband Lee (Woody) Jensen, his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Clarence (Bud) and Catherine Schaben; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Wayne Hollingsworth, Amy Christensen, Leo McCullough, Warren (Tobe) Schaben, Dennis Schaben, and Adolph Schaben.
Survivors include his wife Marlene Christensen of Harlan, Iowa; his daughters: Lynne and husband James Heckman of Boone, Iowa, Doreen Christensen of Kimballton, Iowa, Tracy Christensen of Denison, Iowa, Tammi and husband John Schulz of Elk Horn, Iowa, his grandchildren: Collin Heckman, Ryan Heckman, Erica Heckman all of Boone, Kolten Christensen of Kimballton, Kaitlyn Christensen and Kylie Christensen both of Denison, Trever Schulz and Jason Schulz both of Elk Horn; his sister and brothers: Doris Hollingsworth of Omaha, Nebraska, Ivan Christensen of Elk Horn, Dale and wife Shirley Christensen of Marne, Iowa; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lois Jean Christensen of Elk Horn, Mary and husband Richard Muell of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Alice McCullough of Carroll, Iowa, Don and wife Judy Schaben Defiance, Iowa, LouAnn Schaben of Defiance, Alan and wife JoAnn Schaben of Harlan; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Kimballton, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Friday evening at 5:00 P.M. with a scripture service at 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
Service:
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Wayne Gubbels on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa.
