Madonna E. Einhaus, 83, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 9, 2006, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Madonna Estelle Einhaus, was born June 17, 1922, in Johnville, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (McGrath) Allison.
She graduated from the Mount Carmel Academy High School in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. Madonna then went to nurse's training school in Houlton, Maine, where she received her Registered Nurse Degree.
Madonna worked as a private duty nurse and then joined the U.S. Army. She left the Army as a First Lieutenant.
While in the Army, Madonna met Bob Einhaus and they were married on July 21, 1947, at St. John's Catholic Church in Des Moines by Monsignor Bart Kane.
They lived in Dubuque where Madonna was President of the Altar and Rosary Society. In 1953, Madonna and Bob moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Bob attended radio-broadcasting school. While there, Madonna worked in the Lutheran Hospital. The couple then moved to Oelwein and in 1955 came to Atlantic when Bob became a partner in the KJAN radio station.
In Atlantic, Madonna remained active in her nursing career. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she was a former President of the Altar and Rosary Society, as well as maintaining membership in many other community clubs and organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Einhaus of Atlantic; a son Steve Einhaus and his wife, Victoria of San Rafael, California; two daughters, Patti Kankousky and her husband, Frank of Omaha, Nebraska; Mary Schoenbeck and her husband, Tom of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, Ashley and Spencer Einhaus, both of San Rafael, California, Chris Kankousky and his wife, Michelle, and Julie Kankousky, all of Omaha, Nebraska. She is also survived by a sister, Patricia Gormley of Bath, New Brunswick, Canada.
Madonna was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and five sisters.
Public visitation will begin at 12 Noon, Monday at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
A Prayer Service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Monday evening followed by visitation with the Einhaus family at Hockenberry's.
A Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13th at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic with Monsignor Lawrence Beeson officiating.
Committal services and interment will be in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery followed by fellowship and refreshments in the Saints Peter and Paul Parish Center.
A memorial will be established in Madonna's memory at a future date.
