Marjorie Elaine Cox, the daughter of Richard and Velma (Moses) Hawks, was born September 5, 1942 at her parent’s home in Charleston, West Virginia and died October 17, 2019, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 1 month, and 12 days.
On December 15, 1964, she was united in marriage to James D. Cox in Jackson, North Carolina. They were blessed with two sons Paul and Barry. Marjorie was employed at J.P. Stevens, Inc. Cotton Mill, Roakoke Rapids, NC. She was a supervisor for over 37 years until she retired in 2002 when the Mill closed down. Marjorie was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Seaboard, North Carolina. Marjorie then worked home health care in adult day care caring for the elderly who suffered from Alzheimer’s and dementia for several years. She later relocated to Atlantic, Iowa to be close to her son Paul, then moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa in March of 2019.
Preceding her in death was her husband James D. Cox; her parents; and her brothers Jimmy Hawks and Thomas R. Hawks.
Survivors include her sons, Paul and wife Rani Cox of Boone, North Carolina and Barry Cox of Danville, Illinois; 9 grandchildren: James and wife Melanie Cox, Miranda Cox, Brittany and husband Brian Dortch, Cain and wife Jessi Quinn, Ian Quinn and fiancé Lauren, Jessica Cox, George Shaw, Maxine Shaw, and John Cox; 11 great granddaughters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many beloved friends.
