Mary Alice Lange

    Mary Alice Lange, the daughter of William and Mildred (Kempf) Murray, was born September 29, 1936, in Carroll, Iowa and died March 5, 2023, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 6 days.

    Mary Alice was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Audubon. She attended rural school in Melville Township, Audubon County and then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1955. Following graduation Mary Alice was employed at the Soil Conservation office.

    On May 19, 1956, she was united in marriage to Marvin Lange at the Presbyterian Church in Audubon. They were blessed with four children Gary, Randy, Jim, and Nancy. Mary Alice continued at the Soil Conservation office until Gary was born. She then stayed at home and helped raise the children and helped Marvin operate their farm. They grew row crops and raised livestock. Mary Alice raised chickens and always had a vegetable garden. After the children were raised, she worked at the Friendship Home in Audubon for a number of years before she retired. Mary Alice and Marvin lived on the farm until they moved into Audubon in 1999 and later to the Exira Care Center on February 19, 2019.

    Mary Alice was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa and was a member of the Women’s Circle. She belonged to several card clubs and when Marvin and Mary Alice were younger, they enjoyed Square Dancing. She was an excellent baker and was well known for her cinnamon rolls.

    Preceding her in death was her grandson, Ryan Lange; her parents; and her brother-in-law Gordon Lange.

    Survivors include her husband Marvin Lange of Exira, Iowa; her children Gary Lange and Karen Beyer of Manassas, Virginia, Randy and wife Natalie Lange of Audubon, Iowa, Jim and wife Becky Lange of Hamlin, Iowa, and Nancy and husband Rodney Hansen of Audubon, Iowa; her 7 grandchildren: Jessica and husband Joe Collier of Kansas City, Missouri, Lindy and husband Kurt Fergenson of Murray, Nebraska, Shane and wife Molly Lange of Audubon, Iowa, Kevin and wife Kim Lange of Colfax, Iowa, Kelsi and husband Wyatt Christensen of Hamlin, Iowa, Brandon Hansen and Brianna Lux of Sioux City. Iowa, and Garrett Hansen of Audubon, Iowa; 11 great grandchildren; her sister Phyllis and husband Jens Bruun of Audubon, Iowa; sister-in-law Marcia and husband Ken Snyder of Audubon, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
