Mary Cynthia Davis

Mary Cynthia Davis, 95, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Friday, January 5, 2024, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic, Iowa. Mary was born September 27, 1928, near Florence, Nebraska to James and Martha (Green) Hineline. She lived her childhood in and around Omaha, Nebraska until her family moved to Iowa in the 1940s.

On December 11, 1948, Mary was united in marriage to Bernard Dale Davis in Greenfield, Iowa. They settled in the Fontanelle/Bridgewater area. She gave birth to their son, Bobbie Dale Davis, on August 18, 1952. In 1958 they moved west of Atlantic where they lived until moving into Atlantic in 1983. She worked at Heritage House as a housekeeper for 15 years before finishing the rest of her working years at Delong Sportswear. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with family, tending to her gardens & flower beds, frequenting flea markets with Bernard and adding to their vast collection of salt and pepper shakers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; parents, James, and Martha; brothers, Lawrence, Leo, and Roger; sisters, Ruby, Viola, Althea, and Norma.

She is survived by her son; Bobbie Dale (Roxanna) Davis of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Dale Frederick (Kenna) Davis of Atlantic, IA, Cynthia Joanna Davis of Atlantic, IA, and Elizabeth Ilien King of Atlantic, IA; a great-granddaughter, “Grandma’s Little Girl” Isabella Ilien-Lynn Davis; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am, Monday, January 15, 2024, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA with Rev. Lauri Boysen officiating. Entombment of both Mary and her late husband, Bernard ashes will follow at the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, IA with Military services for Bernard. Visitation with the family present will be from 9 am till the time of services at the funeral home.
