Mary Plagman

Mary Ann Plagman, 86, of Casey, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016, at the Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa.

She was born at home in Thompson Township, Iowa, on November 13, 1929, the daughter of Aylor and Leota (Overmeyer) Nelson. Mary Ann graduated from Casey High School. She lived her whole life in rural Guthrie County, Iowa, or in the town of Casey, Iowa.

Mary Ann was united in marriage to Chris R. Plagman, Jr. on February 27, 1949. They had two daughters, Sharon and Sandra. Mary Ann worked as a homemaker and farm wife. She was baptized, confirmed, and was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey. She belonged to the Stitch and Chatter Club, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Casey Service Club. Chris and Mary Ann where past King and Queen of Casey.

She enjoyed playing cards and crocheting, especially doilies. Mary Ann also enjoyed cooking and was well known for her noodles as she was branded the "noodle lady". Many could also attest to the fact that she made the best fried chicken ever. Mary Ann was notorious for her Easter egg hunts. The best part of the hunt was she decided when, where, and how they took place and it was always a competition. Above all, Mary Ann loved her family and friends and spending time with all of them. She was known as Grandma "P" to many.

Mary Ann is survived by her two daughters, Sharon (Del) Wedemeyer of Guthrie Center, IA and Sandra Shell of Casey, IA; her grandchildren, Jennifer Wedemeyer of Johnston, IA, Jenni (Josh) Wiig of Clive, IA, Melissa (Steve) Renslow of Menlo, IA and Amber (Jamie) Gundy of Adair, IA; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Lucas and Alena Wedemeyer all of Johnston, IA, Adalyn and Kaden Wiig both of Clive, IA, Daniel and Carly Renslow both of Menlo, IA, and Ella and Irelyn Gundy of Adair, IA; her step-great-grandchildren, Sean and Becca Renslow both of Menlo, IA; her brother, Verdell (Janet) Nelson of Casey, IA; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Plagman, Jr.; her parents, Aylor and Leota Nelson; her son-in-law, Wayne Shell; and her grandson, Ryan Wedemeyer.

The family request memorials to the family, in lieu of flowers, to be used at a later date per Mary Ann's wishes.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2016, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey, IA.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2016, also at St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey. Interment will be in the Dalmanutha Cemetery north of Casey, IA.
