Melissa Jones

Melissa Anne Jones, 49, of Walnut, Iowa, and formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016, as a result of an automobile accident west of Atlantic, Iowa.

Melissa was born June 1, 1966, in Atlantic, Iowa, to and Kenneth Jones and Mary (Ping) Jones. Growing up, she attended school in Atlantic and was a graduate of the class of 1985. She attended Iowa Western Community College and Hair by Stewarts. She had been a resident of the Atlantic area all of her life.

She worked at Casey's in Avoca, Iowa. Melissa also worked as a nurse's aide and in home health care. She enjoyed baking, spending time with friends and family, playing Farmville on Face Book, and watching cartoons.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; a son, Joshua; her mother, Mary; and brothers, James Denny and John Maxwell; and a niece and nephew.

Melissa is survived by a daughter, Alicia Gunderson of Walnut; two sons, Jimmy Joe Misner Jr. and Cameron Aaron Misner both of Atlantic; three grandchildren, Sarah Anne Gunderson of PA, Jasmine Anne Gunderson of Omaha, NE and Zachary Allen Riggle; two sisters, Rachael Maxwell and fiancé, Chad Litty of Atlantic, IA and Susan (Vince) Infantino of Maryville, MO; step-father, Steve Maxwell of Atlantic, IA; special friend, Joe A. Robinson of Walnut, IA; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, January 30, 2016, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Atlantic Senior Center in Atlantic, Iowa.

Memorials are preferred to the family's wishes.
