Melvin Enfield

Melvin R. Enfield, 72, of Atlantic, Iowa (formerly of Anita) passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at his home in Atlantic.

Mel was born February 9, 1947, in Adair, Iowa, to Arnold and Shirley (Uhlig) Enfield. He grew up on the family farm north of Anita. Mel graduated from Anita High School in 1965 and from Iowa State University in 1969. After graduating from college, he joined the National Guard.

He was married to Joyce Stirek on August 19, 1973, at the United Methodist Church in Griswold, Iowa. They lived on the farm north of Anita until May of 2008, when they moved to Atlantic.

Mel enjoyed spending time with family, going on vacations and taking road trips, farming, tending livestock, doing crossword puzzles, watching old westerns, going to movies, playing cards, and dancing.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anita and the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. Mel also served on the Coop Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Louie and Irene Stirek; and brother-in-law, Jerry Stirek.

Mel is survived by his wife, Joyce Enfield of Atlantic, IA; daughters, Lori (Jason) Spicer of Parker, CO, Cindy Hansen and her friend, Jesse Burt of Blair, NE, Kristi (Brandon) Williams of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Dustin Goodwin and his friend, Georgia Klotz, Madison Williams, Maddox Williams, Alyssa Spicer, Nathan Spicer, Brynlee Spicer and Taylor Hansen; two sisters, Donna (Jerry) Kopaska of Adair, IA and Judy Enfield of Shoreview, MN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lou and June Stirek of Bella Vista, AR, Jim Stirek of Atlantic, IA, Rod and Peggy Foote of Santa Rosa, CA, Tom Stirek of Rodgers, MN, and Eldon and Deb Ernst of Adair, IA; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 27 , 2019, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic , Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 28 , 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Anita , Iowa. Immediately following the service, lunch will be held in the church fellowship hall.

Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.

Memorials may be left to family’s wishes to be designated at a later date.
