Michael “Slick” Linn Elsberry, age 48, of Atlantic, IA, passed away Friday, March, 26, 2021, at University Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Michael was born July 8, 1972, in Des Moines, IA, to Merle and Margaret “Maggie” (Laursen) Elsberry. He first attended school in Albert City, IA, till the age of 8. In 1981, his family moved to Atlantic where he finished his education graduating from Atlantic High School in 1993.

After graduation he started and maintained his career at McDonald’s in Atlantic where he was the lunch and lobby attendant. Michael took great pride on keeping things cleaned up, picked up, and wiped down. Along side working at McDonald’s, Michael also worked at Cass Inc. everyday in the mornings until they closed, as well as two days a week working at Americas Best Value Inn & Suites. He was also proud of the fact that every year for the past 12 years he would fly down to Texas by himself to visit family.

Michael was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic and the local Lions Club. He enjoyed watching Kanas City Chiefs football and many Iowa State Cyclones activities. Michael was very active in the Special Olympics, Challenger Basketball at the YMCA, and the Night to Shine Prom event for many years.

Michael is survived by his father, Merle (Leah Peters) of Atlantic, IA; his two sisters, Margie (Todd) Young of Atlantic, IA and Marie (Jeff) Nelson of Elk Horn, IA; nieces, Emma Young, Ansleigh (Austin) Johnson, Mia Nelson, Zoe Nelson, and Hannah Nelson; nephews, William Nelson, Cole Young, Joshua Nelson; and many aunts, uncles, and other relatives

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret; grandparents, Virgil and Sally Elsberry, and Chester and Marjorie Laursen; uncles, Gerald Kallesen and Wayne Elsberry; and aunt and uncle, Janice (Loren) Hartwig.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, IA, with Rev. Kyle McBee officiating. Following the funeral service committal will take place at the Atlantic Cemetery.

Open visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA.

Family will also visit at a lunch to be held at The Venue, 307 Walnut St., following the committal service.

Memorials may be directed to the family in honor of Michael and will be designated later to some of his favorite charitable organizations and hobbies.

Arrangements are being handled by the staff at Hockenberry Funeral Home, Atlantic, IA.
