Milton Earl Mueller, age 90, of Walnut, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Milton was born March 18, 1930, in Monroe Township, Shelby County, Iowa, to Earl and Lela (Blair) Mueller. He attended grade school in Walnut at Layton #4 and graduated from Walnut High School with the class of 1947.
On July 11, 1951, he married Vera Lehnhardt.
Milton had various jobs in the Walnut area after graduating from high school and prior to joining the US Army in 1951. He served in the Army Signal Corps from 1951 – 1953 and was stationed in Austria and Italy. Upon his discharge from the Army, Milton returned to Walnut and worked for Mertz Implement, was a substitute rural mail carrier and then was hired as a clerk for the Walnut Post Office. He retired from the Post Office in 1985 to pursue full-time farming. He continued farming until declining health forced him to stop doing the work he loved, planting and harvesting crops, and raising sheep and cattle.
Preceding Milton in death were his parents, Earl and Lela, and his sister, Phyllis (Harold) Voege.
Those surviving Milton are his wife, Vera of Walnut, IA; his children, Donna (Ron) Sedlak of Ulysses, NE, and Rita Mueller of Minneapolis, MN; 3 grandchildren, Shawn (Kevin) Timoney, Sharon Zimmerman and Janene (Kerry) Huntley; and 7 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2020, at Layton Township Cemetery, Walnut, IA. Masks and social distancing will be required in attendance of services.
