Myrna Faye Akers

Myrna Faye Akers, the daughter of James Edward and Martha (Johnson) Wentworth, was born October 30, 1938, in Buffalo Center, Iowa and died November 25, 2019, at her home in rural Brayton, Iowa at the age of 81 years and 26 days.

She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Thompson, Iowa. She attended and graduated from the Thompson Community Schools in Thompson. She then moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she was employed as a clerk for an Insurance Agency for a short time.

On May 28, 1960, she was united in marriage to Larry Akers at the Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Two children, Craig and Mary Beth were born to this union. She was a homemaker raising her two children and helped Larry operate the family farm. In 1977, she was employed at the Exira Care Center as the morning cook where she continued to work until she retired in 2009. Larry died on July 13, 2007.

Myrna was a member of the Exira Christian Church in Exira and was very active with the Christian Women’s Fellowship Group. When the children were younger, she served as a 4-H leader for a number of years. She participated in several neighbor card clubs and the Merry Meeter’s club. Myrna always had a large vegetable garden and enjoyed canning the produce she collected. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting and sewing. But most of all she loved to spend time with her family.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Larry Akers; her parents; her infant brothers, Arlen Wentworth and Marion Wentworth; her infant sister, Maurine Wentworth, her sisters and brother, Gloria and husband Merle Berhow, Marilyn and husband Bill Cherry, Shirley and husband Ernie Henning, Norma and husband Stanley Yeries, and Alan and wife Evie Wentworth; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Darlene Wentworth, Eva Mae Akers, Harold and wife Doris Akers, and Norman and wife Irene Akers.

Survivors include her children, Craig Akers of Brayton, Iowa, Mary Beth and husband Bill Stephens of Auxvasse, Missouri; her grandchildren, Savannah Stephens of Springfield, Missouri, and Shane Stephens of Auxvasse; her brothers, Steven and wife Ardelle Wentworth of Brainerd, Minnesota, Douglas Wentworth of Forest City, Iowa, Jim and wife Elaine Wentworth of Brainerd, and Kerry Wentworth of Thompson, Iowa; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Nyle Akers of Brayton, and Lana and husband Rich Boggs of Stuart, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
