Nancy Lea Munch

Nancy Lea Munch, the daughter of Meridith and Martha (Christensen) Markley, was born March 8, 1941, in Exira, Iowa and died April 22, 2019, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 1 month, and 14 days.
Nancy was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa and attended the Exira Community Schools.
On December 24, 1957, she was united in marriage to Ken Petersen at her parent’s home in Exira. They were blessed with five children Rick, Ron, Rhonda, Dennis, and Toni. Nancy was a homemaker for many years as the children were growing up. She then became the head cook at the Victory Café in Audubon which was owned by Cloy Kneeskern. Every time Cloy opened a different restaurant, which included the Holiday Café, and later the Summit House, Nancy was in charge of training the cooks and servers. She continued to work at the Summit House for many years.
In December of 1985, she married Dallas Munch in Audubon. They purchased the Bar Stool Tavern in Exira which they operated for over 13 years until they retired and sold the bar.
Nancy and Dallas enjoyed camping in their camper which they would drive to Littlefield Park at the beginning of the summer in an area where they were surrounded by many of their friends. Nancy was an avid reader and most likely read all the books in the Exira Library and many of the surrounding area libraries. Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her son Ron Petersen; her parents; her sister JoAnn and husband Lee Thompson; and Ken Petersen.
Survivors include her husband Dallas Munch of Exira, Iowa; her children Rick and wife Deb Petersen of Atlantic, Iowa, Rhonda and husband Dave Wilkerson of Exira, Iowa, Dennis Petersen of Audubon, Iowa, and Toni and husband Kent Schlater of Exira, Iowa; her step children Sheri and husband Mike Irlmeier of Exira, Iowa and Lori and husband Ned Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren ; nieces, nephews , other relatives, and many friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside Service and inurnment will be conducted by Pastor Abby VanAernam on Friday afternoon April 26, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
