Nelda Teague

Nelda Gray Teague, 93, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

She was born May 15, 1925, in Sac County, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Lola (Cole) Gray. Nelda attended a one room country school, where she was the only girl in her class. Shortly after her high school graduation, and during World War II, she took a train to Washington D.C. While there, she began working for the Department of Commerce on Pennsylvania Avenue. During her time in Washington D.C., she met Cecil Dean Teague. They were united in marriage October 21, 1945, in Nemaha, Iowa. During their married years, Nelda and Cecil lived in Sac City, Lytton and Fort Dodge before settling in Atlantic in 1962.

Nelda was the secretary/treasurer for the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic for over 25 years and a member of the church for more than 50 years. In her free time she enjoyed painting, counted cross stitch and playing bridge. Nelda was a very independent woman who enjoyed new challenges. She was also a spunky woman until the end.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Teague; her parents, Bert and Lola Gray, and her brother, Duane Gray.

Nelda is survived by her daughter, Paula (Jim) Odem of Tucson, AZ; her sons, Bruce (Jackie) Teague of Stoughton, WI, and Steve (Elaine) Teague of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Darci (Keith) Lee, Darin Odem, Debi (Adam) Bohnet, Shana (Joe) Platt, Joni (Chris) Kelley, Erin Teague and Kelsie Teague; great-grandchildren, Logan Odem, Jordan and Addison Bohnet, Jenna, Kaitlyn and Cole Platt, Anna, Madison and Ashley Kelley; sister, Mavis Dannenberg; sister-in-law, Georgia Gray; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2018, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, Iowa. A private family burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Visitation with family will take place during the luncheon at the church following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
