Nick Reavis, 72, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, with his family by his side at his home in rural Atlantic.

Nick was born July 29, 1943, in Shenandoah, Iowa, to Cornelius (Nick) and Ruby "Ellen" (Jones) Reavis. He grew up in Shenandoah and attended and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1961. He was married to Beverly Jean Black on October 12, 1963, in Clarinda, Iowa. They raised their five children in Essex, Iowa, and resided in the Atlantic area since 2000.

Nick worked for most of his life in the nursery business which was a major industry in Shenandoah, with its fertile soil, and is where he filled himself with knowledge that would form his career as marketing director and salesman for Henry Fields Nursery. After several years working for others, Nick decided to spread his wings and start his own lawn and garden business. Although formally retired, Nick was never far from work or offering advice to his customers.

He was a member of Tree's Forever and the NRA. Nick enjoyed collecting guns, gardening, antiquing with his wife, Beverly, watching old westerns - especially those that featured John Wayne, and spending time with his family. Nick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was known for his great sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Nick is survived by his wife, Beverly Reavis of Atlantic; his children, Rick Reavis of Atlantic, Kevin (Jem) Reavis of Corning, Brian Reavis of Atlantic, Shannon McMahon of Iowa City, and Tim Reavis of Atlantic; grandchildren, Kody Reavis, Tommy Reavis, Samantha Reavis, Nathan Reavis, Delaney McMahon and Nick McMahon; and a sister, Sharron Trimmer.
