Nicolas Ryan Zimmerman went to be with the Lord Thursday evening April 6, 2017, after a two year battle with leukemia. Nic left this world peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife, his children and his mother.
Nic enjoyed twenty-one years, six months and sixteen days in this world. He was born September 22, 1995, to Tyler Zimmerman and Patti Gundy-Zimmerman in Ocala, Florida. His family moved to Iowa when he was a young child where he grew up. As an adolescent, Nic loved to skateboard and enjoyed playing his guitar, writing songs and playing gigs with his band. Nic was first diagnosed with leukemia in June of 2015.
Nic joined his wife, Lynn Cobb, in marriage on April 8, 2016, during a secret sunset ceremony in Lewis, Iowa. Nic’s true passion in life was being a loving husband, a caring father and a devoted child of God. Nic aspired to one day follow the Lord’s calling to the ministry.
Nic is survived by his wife, Lynn Tyler Zimmerman; his children, Jaylen (JJ) McDaniel and Lynda (Sissy) Rose all of Atlantic, IA; his mother, Patti Lynne Zimmerman of Atlantic, IA; his siblings, Montgomery Coltyn Zimmerman and Montana Ty Zimmerman both of Tampa, FL; his paternal grandmother, Connie Schafer Zimmerman of Omaha, NE; his paternal grandfather, Dennis Zimmerman of Illinois; maternal grandmother, Judith Ann Elwood of Atlantic, IA; paternal great-grandmothers, Margaret Zimmerman of Omaha, NE and Donna Petroff of Council Bluffs, IA; numerous aunts and uncles including Keri Mikkelsen of Denmark, Lauren Zimmerman of Illinois, Blake Zimmerman of Arizona, David Frizzell of Atlantic, IA, Brett Elwood, Jeff Elwood and Nikki Elwood all of Omaha, NE and Lori Gandara and Daniel Gandara both of Utah; multiple cousins including Jesse, Grace and Sam Gandara, Jenna, Cade and Kelly Elwood, Shelby Gundy, Jolie and Tristan Mikkelsen, Gerald and Joan Brink, Sandi Easter, Shelly Baldridge, Steve and Stan Rossell; Brandy Rossell; and Ayden, Brenna and Camden Rossell.
Preceding Nic in death were his father, Tyler Ryan Zimmerman; his maternal grandparents, Lyle and Betty Frizzell; his maternal aunt, Kala Elwood; maternal uncle, Keith Frizzell; and his pet turtle, Speedy.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Fellowship Church in Oakland, Iowa. Family will visit with friends at a lunch in the church fellowship hall following the service.
