Norman Paulsen

Norman Wayne Paulsen, 87, died Sunday, November 6, 2016, at Caring Acres Nursing & Rehab in Anita, Iowa.

Norman was born November 18, 1928, in Lewis, Iowa. He was adopted by Henry J. and Lowene A. (Lloyd) Paulsen at an early age. He grew up near Wiota and graduated from Wiota high School. He was married to Verda "Bert" Mae Haszard on November 5, 1949, in Hiawatha, Kansas.

He worked as a bridge construction supervisor for Jensen Construction for over fifty years, where he was known as "Stormin Norman".

Norman enjoyed farming, woodworking, the outdoors and he especially loved to go dancing. He and Bert took dance lessons at the Arthur Murray School of Dance.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verda "Bert"; sons, Gary and Mike; a great-grandchild, Jaime Paulsen; brothers, Darrell and Lloyd: and a sister, Marian Johnston.

Norman is survived by his children, Steven (Sandi) Paulsen of Anita, IA, Debbie (Bob) Davis of Ankeny, IA, Pam (Don) Routh of Norwalk, IA, Laurie (Jeff) Morrissey of Norwalk, IA and LeRoy "Monty" Paulsen of Anita, IA; numerous grand and great- grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Hilyard of Cumberland, IA and Connie Avey of Lawrence, KS; brothers, Ronnie Paulsen of Anita, IA, Roger (Carolyn) Paulsen of TX, Kevin (Connie) Paulsen of Anita, IA and Larry (Marilyn) Paulsen of Exira, IA.

Visitation with family will be from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, IA. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.

Memorials may be left to the families wishes.
