Opal V. Frisbie, 97, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Friday, August 4, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle, Iowa.
Opal Virginia Frisbie was born October 19, 1919, in Cass County, Iowa, to Floyd and Eva (Abhau) McFadden. She grew up near Fletcher Chapel and attended the Atlantic School system graduating from Atlantic High School. She then attended Nebraska State College in Peru, Nebraska.
Opal married Roy Morris Frisbie February 28, 1945, in Atlantic, Iowa. She and Roy moved to their home south of Adair where she lived until she moved to the Good Samaritan in Fontanelle. Opal’s career days were spent as a teacher at the Summit No. 6 country school in Adair County.
She was a member of the Farm Bureau for over 50 years, member of the Canby Friends Church and Ladies Aid and had been a 4-H leader for several years earlier in her life. She liked gardening and canning her garden produce for her family. She loved selecting quilt pieces and turning them into quilts as well as embroidering tea towels for the church auction.
Preceding Opal in death were her husband, Roy in September of 2001; her parents; brothers; sisters; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and nephews.
Surviving Opal are her sons, Gary (friend, Cindy) Frisbie of Hillsboro, IA and Delmar (Deborah) Frisbie of Adair, IA; daughter, Carol (Pat) Mathers of Butte, NE; grandchildren, Kevin, Kris, Katy, Mandy, Nicholas, Sheri and Larry; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Canby Friends Church with burial in Canby Friends Cemetery, Canby, Iowa, all south of Adair, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to Canby Friends Church, in lieu of flowers.
