Patsy Young

Patsy R. Young, 70, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Casey, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 25, 2006, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Patsy Ruth (Hester) Young was born on November 21, 1935, on a farm south of Panora, Iowa, the daughter of Elston Curtis and Mary Lyndell (Middleton) Hester.
Patsy graduated from Yale High School in Yale, Iowa, in 1954.
On July 20, 1957, she married John Howard Young. They lived in several areas due to John's job including Shenandoah for 6 years, Earlham for 13 years, Casey for 16 years and most recently in Des Moines for the last 14 years.
Patsy worked various jobs, including sharing ownership of the Fair Store in Casey, Iowa, with her husband. Most recently she had been employed for nine years by Coach House Gifts at Valley West Mall in Des Moines until retiring fulltime in 1997.
She was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years, as well as a member of the Casey Women's Club.
Patsy was an avid gardener and a passionate quilter. She was a loving wife and mother to all and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Patsy is survived by her husband John of Des Moines, Iowa; three children, Cindy Richter and her husband, Mark of Adair, Iowa, Mark Young and his wife, Becky of Mitchellville, Iowa, and Teresa Lawser and her husband, Jim of Denver, Colorado; grandsons, Anthony Richter and his wife, Sheryl of Adair, Iowa, Joe Richter of Des Moines, Iowa, and Christopher Richter and his wife, Mandy of Kelley, Iowa; great-grandchildren; five siblings, Lila Flanery and her husband, Tony of Panora, Iowa, Eldon Hester and his wife, Cindy of Panora, Iowa, Keith Hester and his wife Glenda of Auckland, New Zealand, Janet Westergaard and her husband, Ed of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jack Hester and his wife, Sherry of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elston and Mary Hester and a daughter, in infancy, Patsy Ruth Young.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 28, 2006, at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa. No visitation is scheduled.
Interment of her ashes will be at a later date in the Moffitt Grove Cemetery, near Springbrook Park.
